Proto jackin’ hip-house and punk-funk from the third coast, Z-Factor’s Dance Party Album first landed in 1984 on Chicago’s scene-defining Mitchbal label. It captures the moment boyhood friends Jesse Saunders and Vince Lawrence started reshaping club music from the ground up.

This is where they reinvented the 909 for the Warehouse, WBMX, and beyond, pairing spaced-out, lo-fi Italo synths with micro-budget four-on-the-floor drum machine rattles. Raw, inventive, and full of movement, it remains a vital early Chicago document with plenty of spark left in it.
