Departing the Wasteland

Alexi Tuomarila presents Departing the Wasteland, his new album that marks the beginning of a new creative journey for the Finnish pianist and composer. This album also celebrates 20 years of collaboration with his trio members: Mats Eilertsen on bass and Olavi Louhivuori on drums.

The trio's sound is enriched by the addition of Portuguese guitarist Andre Fernandes and guest players, creating a unique blend that incorporates electronics and synthesized tones. Throughout his career, Alexi Tuomarila has established himself as one of Europe's finest pianists, gaining recognition with the release of his album '02' under Warner Jazz France in 2003.

Despite facing challenges when Warner Jazz discontinued their jazz and classical department, Alexi Tuomarila continued to thrive. He collaborated with Polish trumpeter legend Tomasz Stanko on the acclaimed album Dark Eyes for ECM Records and worked with his current drummer Olavi Louhivuori on various projects for Edition.

With three successful albums on Edition - Seven Hills (2014), Kingdom (2017), and Sphere (2019) - Alexi Tuomarila's Departing the Wasteland promises to be a captivating addition to his discography.
