Four boys who grew up in the experimental ‘New Town’ of Basildon in the late 70s on a diet of Kraftwerk and Essex soul produced what founder Vince Clarke called “ultrapop”. After writing debut album Speak & Spell and hit single ʻJust Can’t Get Enoughʼ, Clarke left to start Yazoo with Basildon’s Alison Moyet.
