Doctor Who - Timelash - Original Television Soundtrack

Timelash is the fifth serial of the 22nd season in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was first broadcast in two weekly parts on BBC1 on 9 and 16 March 1985.

It is, to date, the only television Doctor Who story to have a score been composed by a woman. In the serial, the Borad (Robert Ashby), the mutated leader of the planet Karfel, plots to start a war with the Bandril race which would wipe out both the Bandrils and Karfel's population so that the Borad could repopulate it with his own kind to rule the planet.

Elizabeth Parker is a British composer and sound designer best known for her work at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, where she was a leading figure in electronic music for television and radio from 1978 until the Workshop's closure in the 1990s. Her compositions and sound designs for productions including The Living Planet, Blake's 7, Doctor Who, and numerous BBC radio dramas established her as one of the principal composers of the Workshop's later period. Following her BBC career, she continued as a freelance composer for documentary, television, and film productions.

"I wanted the music for Timelash to be true grit. I needed the score to be edgy, spiky, strident and powerful, emerging from a distinctive angular sound palette which I took huge time and effort to create, largely using the PPG Wave synth and some of its glorious gutsy sounds. I could hear the score in my head before I started composing - I knew exactly where I was going with the sound and I am immensely proud of the way it turned out - some great combinations of electronic sounds... to me it sounds pretty contemporary, even 40 years later." - Elizabeth Parker
