Feathers is the fifth album by the rock band Dead Meadow from Washington, D.C. It was released in 2005 by Matador Records on CD and LP, and is now being reissued by Xemu Records under license from Matador Records.
This reissue is an exact copy of the original double vinyl and CD packages, complete with the original art and masters. In addition to the reissue, this new product includes a demo rarities CD that is included with both the CD and LP releases. The demo CD features outtakes from the 2004 recording session, as well as demos with different song structures and arrangements, and even a couple of tunes that didn't make it onto the final album.
Dead Meadow play an unusual blend of flawless Hendrix/Sabbath riffage, dreamy psych, heavy undulating rhythms, dirty blues-rock, and environmental jams, all accompanied by eerie high-pitched vocals. Their sound goes beyond stoner rock gimmickry, creating a beautifully organic sound that is played with alarming mastery.
With the addition of 2nd guitarist Cory Shane and beautifully spacious production, Feathers expands the Dead Meadow sound even further, appearing both more experimental and more accessible than anything they've released before. The record captures the intense energy of their live shows, while songs like "At Her Open Door" and "Stacy's Song" reveal an obsessive beauty that is as jarring as their sheer volume.
