Called “a lost classic of the Acid Jazz era,” Onward International’s Foot In The Door has long earned its place as a key record in the acid jazz story. Featured on compilations and even bootlegged, its horn-led intro has been pulling people onto dancefloors for more than 40 years.
Recorded during one magical night in the same studio and around the same time as Sade’s Diamond Life, it brought together some of London’s finest session players, all of whom would later appear on Working Week’s debut album.
The title track got its name after the master had been taken to every record company in London and, at last, one door opened. Elsewhere, the Airto-styled batucada beat Brazilian boogie Samba Doo Bonnay stands out, while Roberto Pla’s 21st Floor Mambo closes this rare Brit-funk-meets-acid-jazz EP in style.
