'free pop' is the debut full length release of material written and recorded 2006-2007. morviscous are an instrumental five piece based in london and paris whose compositions plunder the various genres of the 20th century with a sensibility that belongs to the idiosyncratic british tradition of popular experimental music that includes the likes of henry cow, this heat, king crimson, and soft machine. they make a kind of music that's rare in the uk right now, very much akin to the american avant post rockers a la battles, for carnation, but with a very british vibe, like a modern take on soft machine / chris mcgregor's brotherhood of breath. avoiding stereotpyes and the cliches of instant stylisation the music dumfounds with serendipitous structuring that combines a multitude of modern influences. the arrangements playfully defy expectations to produce, even within a single track, a flowing collage of ideas that suggest a band who value playful compositional risks, from crazed busy layering to plateus of space the mood shifts constantly and inquisitively.
