Friendship Survival Guide

Deutsche Grammophon present Friendship Survival Guide, a set of orchestral psychedelic drone pieces from Adam Wiltzie and the late Jóhann Jóhannsson. It captures the deep creative bond between two singular artists whose shared language stretched across writing, performing and recording.

Wiltzie, co-founder of the now-legendary drone duo Stars of the Lid, and the award-winning composer and orchestrator Jóhannsson built a decade-long friendship and partnership before his tragic passing in 2018.

The album draws from studio collaborations between 2013 and 2017, connected to Jóhannsson’s scores for the 2014 Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything, which won him a Golden Globe, and Dennis Villeneuve’s 2017 sci-fi thriller Arrival, which brought an Academy Award nomination.
