Title

Ghostman is Captain Future’s debut solo long-player, an album that's been brewing away in a cauldron of the Captain's dimly lit, smoky kitchen for a while.

Usually, record producer Alex McGowan is immersed in his London studio Space Eko East, recording Roots and Rock’n’Roll acts such as The Urban Voodoo Machine, Paul-Ronney Angel, Jim Jones & The Righteous Mind, Sister Cookie and countless others, while dedicating the rest of his time to his 9-piece Rock'n'Roll Gospel band The Future Shape Of Sound, who have gained some notoriety on the UK scene in recent years delivering their energetic colourful live shows to festivals and venues all over the country.

But when normality was canceled during 2020, and with it all festivals, gigs and studio congregations, there was suddenly a void that initially looked very bleak and scary. But counting his blessings, Alex decided that this was an opportunity to turn up the heat on completing an album that had been “almost finished” for too long.

In contrast to the upbeat gospel sounds of TFSOS, Ghostman offers a collection of songs that show a different, more personal side.

Downtempo dubby blues, juxtaposed with escapist trip hop style beats, elements which are all very familiar in Alex’ previous collaborations with high-profile artists such as Martina Topley Bird, Tricky, Jah Wobble, The Starseeds.

Being a multi-instrumentalist, the Captain plays most instruments on this album himself including backing and lead vocals, ghostly delivering surreal, flow-of-consciousness lyrics.

But even with a solo album Alex can’t seem to resist inviting brothers & sisters to jam on tunes, preferably at an after party back at the studio, as he loves capturing the magic of unplanned recordings.

As a result Ghostman also features some guests such as Nuwella Love, the first ever singer in The Future Shape Of Sound, Future Sister Chezelle Wilson-Williams, long-time friend and client Son Of Dave, 1960s legend Earl Okin, Maff Scott (The Egg), visual artist Tina Ngondo on BVs, singer Bearte and other contributing friends.

This is a chilled out, after hours album! Sit back, dim the lights, choose your poison and let it be the soundtrack to your escape.
