With the release of DOA's Hardcore 81, the North American punk rock explosion finally got a name. DOA were the first band to use the term 'hardcore' when describing the kind of hard-edged punk music they and their contemporaries had been playing for nearly three years.

And how right they were, with 1981 being the year hardcore broke across America. Regarded by many as the band's finest moment, Hardcore 81 features the classics "Slumlord," "Smash the State," "My Old Man's a Bum," "Fucked up Baby," "Waiting for You," their hilarious piss take of Led Zeppelin's "Communication Breakdown," and the band's call-to-arms anthem "DOA."
