Heavy Thoughts

David Thomas Broughton, with Neil Turpin on drums and Matthew Bourne on piano, form a Leeds-rooted group drawn to unpredictable performance. Their music moves freely between song and abstraction, with a loose, responsive energy that keeps everything open.

Neil and Matt improvise around David’s fragments of words and guitar. In turn, David answers them, building and dismantling loops that can feel subtle, harmonious, and at times deliberately obtuse.

This release gathers selections from an improvised recording session in February 2020, captured just before the first lockdown.
