Into The Mirror Black

Recorded at the infamous Sound City Studios in 1989, Sanctuary’s Into the Mirror Black stands as a fierce statement of intent. While others pushed for a more commercially viable Seattle grunge sound, the band stuck to their mix of Bay Area thrash and traditional heavy metal.

That decision gives this record its lasting power. It is a confident, often overlooked masterpiece that captures Sanctuary holding their ground and sounding fully committed to who they were.

After the band split in 1992, Warrel Dane and Jim Shepherd carried that spirit into Nevermore. Sanctuary reformed in 2010 and brought these songs back to the stage. Warrel Dane, the band’s lead vocalist, died in 2017.
