dieter schoon's reference points on 'lablaza' are endless. after a while different textures appear; a sudden cohenesque deviation; an early days bowiesque sound coupled with sudden eruptions of jens lekman or beck, or a pasted minute of breathless freeform dfa or a forlorn damaged hot chip with tales to tell. on top of it all, floating effortlessly, dieter schn's melancholic, slackery voice, binding it all together. a voice filled with seemingly dead easy confidence, a character trait that all in all is the foundation of the whole record. la blaza is of course the name of dieters legendary studio situated down by the harbour in gothenburg. a refuge and living space also known as gaming hangout and shelter for professional party people and other dubious characters, a creative space that dieter managed to keep intact since the early 90s. dieter started out as a drummer and has been invioved in numerous music projects. la blaza is his debut as a soloartist, an exeptionally convincing debut indeed!
