Laws Of Motion

Karine Polwart is a multi-award winning songwriter and musician, theatre maker, and published writer. She is a six-time winner at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, including the 2018 Folk Singer of The Year. Her new album, Laws Of Motion, was recorded alongside long-term collaborators Inge Thomson (accordion, percussion, synths & vocals) and brother Steven Polwart (guitars & vocals).

Polwart's 2017 album, A Pocket Of Wind Resistance, used the migratory habits of geese to explore universally human societal and ecological issues. In her latest album, Laws of Motion, Polwart continues to blend the familial and the familiar with the unsettling and the unknown, driven by her gift for empathy and accessibility.

The subject matter of the album is diverse, touching on topics such as Trump, WW2, holocaust survivors, migrants, and allegorical folk and children's stories. These disparate themes are brought together by the laws referenced in the album's title, creating a cohesive and thought-provoking musical experience.
