Best known for his participation in the Tamba Trio, pianist, composer and arranger Luiz Eça (1936-1992) has accompanied groups and performers such as the Quarteto Em Cy, Edu Lobo and Sylvia Telles. His song, “The Dolphin,” is considered a jazz standard and has been recorded by Stan Getz, Bill Evans, and Denny Zeitlin. The main album on this release, Luiz Eça & Cordas, is a symphonic jazz LP with occasional bossa nova colorings. Luiz Eça, on the piano, is accompanied by Bebeto (double bass), Ohanna (drums) and Neco (acoustic guitar), and by a heavily string-centric orchestra. Also included here is Eça’s 1956 debut LP, Um Piano na Madrugada, and four amazing Eça duets with trombonist Astor Silva.
