Mi Historia Americana: Sur "The Encores"

Following the acclaim of My American Story – North, star pianist Daniil Trifonov heads south for Mi Historia Americana – Sur, tracing a vivid path through South America and the Caribbean with a programme that balances cherished repertoire and personal discoveries.

The set brings together piano works by Gabriela Lena Frank, Ginastera, Guarnieri, Lecuona and Villa-Lobos, plus Trifonov’s own tango. It is a brilliant showcase for his curiosity as much as his playing.

Two orchestral performances with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra widen the view: Ary Barroso’s Aquarela do Brasil and the world-premiere recording of Osvaldo Golijov’s vividly coloured Cuadros del Sur. Spanning Brazil, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Peru and Argentina, it feels both expansive and deeply personal.
