In the ‘Golden Age’ of sound recording (early 1920s to mid 1930s) brilliant rural musicians were recorded for all to enjoy for the very first time. These 94 sides provide a snapshot of their inspiring musical styles and are performed here entirely by Mississippi musicians.

Old-time musicians and record collectors alike have done a formidable job of preserving and passing down the wonderful “hillbilly” tunes of the great Magnolia State. This set represents an important slice of Mississippi rural music. It gives you the chance to peer through a sonic time portal and absorb the music of artists born as far back as the 1880s.
