Viande push dark, doomy death metal somewhere more unsettling on Monument aux morts, leaning into an atmospheric edge that feels genuinely disorienting. There is real menace in the sound, from the aggressive, militaristic attack to music loaded with dread.

Abyssal growls and tormented screams cut through a haunting, eerie atmosphere, with flashes of dissonance that would sit comfortably in a horror film. Even the slower, doom-heavy passages feel chaotic, giving the record a grip that pulls you deeper into its imagery.

By the time Monument aux morts ends, it feels like emerging from a horrific catacomb in a heightened spiritual state, with a thousand dead souls still echoing around you. It is an exceptional album in its style, and absolutely not for the faint-hearted.
