Nothing Has Changed - The Very Best Of Bowie

Released in 2014, Nothing Has Changed offers a sweeping portrait of David Bowie’s ability to reinvent himself while remaining unmistakably individual. Across its different editions, familiar hits sit alongside later recordings, reminding listeners that his creativity extended well beyond the glam rock years.

“Space Oddity”, “Changes” and “Life on Mars?” retain their emotional pull, combining memorable melodies with characters searching for identity, escape and belonging. “Heroes” turns defiance into something monumental, while “Ashes to Ashes” demonstrates how confidently Bowie could reshape his own mythology. The sleek rhythms of “Let’s Dance” reveal another essential strength: making adventurous ideas accessible to a huge audience.

The collection’s greatest achievement is placing these celebrated songs within a broader artistic journey. Later material gains weight beside the classics, particularly the reflective “Where Are We Now?” and the unsettling jazz experimentation of “Sue (Or in a Season of Crime)”.

The three CD edition is especially rewarding, moving backwards through his career and encouraging fresh connections between apparently distant phases. Some transitions inevitably feel abrupt, but that restlessness suits the artist.

For newcomers, this is a generous introduction; for established fans, it is a reminder of Bowie’s remarkable range, curiosity and enduring emotional impact across five decades.
