Since DAMAGED landed in 2024, Michael Fiedler, aka GHOST DUBS, has been drawing serious praise from Justin Broadrick of Godflesh and Jesu, Regis, Stefan Betke of Pole, and Steve Von Till of Neurosis. On second album Oblique, he pushes deeper into rich, cinematic sound design.
Lower, moodier and more expansive than its predecessor, Oblique moves through cloudy abstractions, submerged rhythms and blurred melodies. Low Times opens with maximum pressure, while After All, Soft Collapse and Blackout Dust drift through noir atmospheres, buried pulse and dreamlike tension.
The spirit of Jamaican dub still lingers, especially on Bombed Suburbs, where Augustus Pablo-style melodicism is slowed into a magnetic groove. Closing track Almost a Structure filters rhythm into pure atmosphere. Following Fiedler’s score for Sound of Falling, recognised at Cannes in 2025, this feels like Ghost Dubs fully arriving.
