The late 70s and early 80s NWOBHM scene was nationwide, but North East England was especially fertile. Driven by Newcastle’s Neat Records, it produced Venom, Raven, Tygers Of Pan Tang and Newcastle’s own Satan, formed in 1979 by guitarists Steve Ramsey and Russ Tippins. Their first single, Kiss Of Death, arrived in 1982.
Signed to Roadrunner, Satan released their 1983 debut Court In The Act on CD1. It was remarkably forward-thinking, folding in speed metal, power metal and thrash, and became a key influence on the emerging German metal scene, with admirers including Helloween and Blind Guardian.
CD2 gathers the 1981 Guardian demo, the 1982 Into The Fire demo, plus live and alternate versions. CD3 features Live In The Act, recorded at Eindhoven’s Dynamo Club in November 1983. In 1984, the band became Blind Fury and issued Out Of Reach on CD4, with a more melodic edge. Includes memorabilia and liner notes by John Tucker.
