Pelican West

Pelican West is now available in a new half-speed master edition, a celebration of Haircut 100's much-loved debut album. The release has been done with the full cooperation of the band.

In less than six months, Haircut 100 went from being London underground darlings to chart-topping sensations. Within a year, they had vanished from the pop scene, leaving behind a memorable album and four Top 10 UK singles.

Nick Heyward (vocals and guitar) shared his thoughts on the album, stating, "Lots of people are discovering Haircut 100 now and that album and saying it's fresh as a fantastic daisy, every time, that's the wonder of it."

In 2022, Marc Fox (percussion) also reflected on the album, saying, "In our pre-senile dementia years, we can sit here and still feel proud of something we did when we were nippers."

In 2022, Blair Cunningham (drums) added, "This is what bands should be, nobody made any sense!"

This new edition of Pelican West has been newly mastered by Phil Kinrade and cut using transfers of the original 1⁄2" digital audio tapes. The precision half-speed mastering was done by Barry Grint at AIR Mastering.

The equipment at AIR Mastering uses balanced mains power for improved performance and lower noise. The digital equipment is locked to an extremely accurate digital clock to reduce jitter. The Neumann VMS80 lathes and cutting amplifiers used have been fully renovated and modified to enable half-speed mastering.

The album is pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl and features an obi strip. It is housed in a poly-lined inner sleeve and includes a 4-page booklet insert.
