portunes

al.so, the quartet of improvisers from Berlin and London, deliver their debut EP portunes, shaped by the rural landscape in which it was created and the intuitive freedom of a first meeting between musicians: keyboardist Moses Yoofee, harpist Miriam Adefris, saxophonist Marius Max and modular synthesiser expert Robert Henriques.

First brought together for the 2022 edition of Berlin’s XJAZZ Festival, al.so took their freeform improvised explorations to Robert’s family home in Gloucestershire later that year to experiment on record.

Without a rhythm section, the group were free to explore beatless soundscapes and textural sonics shaped by the autumnal British landscape and their analogue gear. Across six tracks, portunes references Floating Points, Philip Glass and the spiritual jazz melodics of Alice Coltrane.
