Rokk I Reykjavik is a landmark 1982 soundtrack compilation documenting Iceland's exploding punk, post-punk, and new wave scene at the start of the 1980s. Drawn from the influential documentary of the same name, the album captures a raw, DIY music community that would later have an outsized impact on global alternative music.
Features 33 tracks from many of Iceland's most important underground bands, including early recordings by Björk's band Tappi Tíkarrass, alongside Þeyr, Purrkur Pillnikk, and many others. The music ranges from abrasive punk and experimental post-punk to quirky new wave, offering a fascinating snapshot of a scene finding its identity.
The cover famously features a teenage Björk performing live, and the compilation remains one of the best introductions to the roots of modern Icelandic alternative music. The recent pink-vinyl reissue brings this long out-of-print cult classic back into circulation more than 40 years after its original release
