Born in Spokane, Washington, Danny O’Keefe emerged during the golden age of the American singer/songwriter. While his biggest success came with the enduring 1972 hit ‘Good Time Charlie’s Got The Blues’, his catalogue reaches far beyond a single song. Across a series of albums for Atlantic- and Warner Bros-affiliated labels between 1971 and 1979, O’Keefe created an exceptional body of work that drew together folk, country, blues, rock and jazz, earning admiration from critics and devoted listeners alike.
This newly compiled anthology brings together highlights from six albums: ‘Danny O’Keefe’, ‘O’Keefe’, ‘Breezy Stories’, ‘So Long Harry Truman’, ‘American Roulette’ and ‘The Global Blues’. It traces the development of a songwriter whose work was recorded by artists as diverse as Elvis Presley, Jackson Browne, Judy Collins, Donny Hathaway, Leo Sayer, Andy Williams, Chris Hillman and Waylon Jennings.
The collection also showcases the remarkable musicians, arrangers and producers who contributed to O’Keefe's recordings, among them Ahmet Ertegun, Arif Mardin, Jimmie Haskell, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Andrew Gold, Linda Ronstadt, David Bromberg, Dr John and Donny Hathaway.
