Songs of Praise (ReVINYL Edition)

Shame thrive on confrontation. From the seething intensity of debut LP Songs of Praise to the adrenaline-charged chaos of their live shows, everything is driven by pure feeling. NPR’s Bob Boilen said, “Of the 70 bands I saw at this year’s SXSW, the band Shame seemed to mean what they played more than any other.”

Made up of vocalist Charlie Steen, guitarists Sean Coyle-Smith and Eddie Green, bassist John Finerty, and drummer Charlie Forbes, the London five-piece started out as school friends. They built the band on a DIY foundation, with The Fall and Wire among their key influences.

Pulling from that grit and sincerity, Shame cut a path through South London before charging into the angular, thrashing post-punk of their Dead Oceans debut, Songs of Praise. From Gold Hole and Concrete to Tasteless, it’s an album that never stops for breath.
