Space Guitars

Music for New String Instruments, composed and performed by Allan Bryant, captures a singular stretch of his solo work in the early to mid 1970s.

A pioneer of underground American electronic music, Bryant helped push things forward as a founding member of Musica Elettronica Viva alongside Alvin Curran, Frederic Rzewski, and Richard Teitelbaum. After leaving in 1968, he kept composing, recording, and archiving live vintage MEV sets on his own IRML imprint until his death in 2019.

On Space Guitars, Bryant channels his fascination with self-made instruments and raw electricity into these solo recordings. First released on the CRI label in 1977, it returns here on vinyl for the first time as a revised and expanded 2LP edition.
