Stravinsky: Pulcinella, K34

With Pulcinella, Igor Stravinsky created one of the key works of his neoclassical period in 1920. Commissioned by the impresario Sergei Diaghilev, the ballet is based on characters from the Italian Commedia dell’Arte and combines 18th-century music with Stravinsky’s unmistakably modern musical language.

Thanks to its original blend of historical source material, humour and brilliant orchestration, Pulcinella remains one of Stravinsky’s most popular works to this day.

For the first time, this recording has been remastered and cut from the original 1-inch 8-track tapes.
