Tango N’Vectif

The original 1993 Rephlex vinyl edition of µ-Ziq’s Tango N'Vectif, remastered from DATs by Beau Thomas, with the original artwork and photography by Richard James.

Released in a landmark year for electronic music, this was written by Mike Paradinas in his late teens, with help from Frank Naughton. It still sounds sharp today, with its impact on the decades of electronic music that followed easy to hear.

Pulling from early Aphex, Detroit techno and UK hardcore, Mike Paradinas shaped a loose, funky, lo-fi take on rave with crunchy drums and strong melodies. Working without a computer at first, he later teamed up with Frank Naughton and his Atari 1040ST.

A demo eventually reached Aphex Twin, leading to a Rephlex deal with Grant Wilson Claridge. During Frank Naughton’s family holiday, Mike Paradinas borrowed the gear and wrote most of Tango N’Vectif in two weeks.
