Tango N’Vectif (Sessions - selection of the best extras)

Tango N'Vectif, released in 1993, captures a classic moment for auteurist electronic music that didn’t always sit neatly on the dancefloor. Written by Mike Paradinas in his late teens, with help from Frank Naughton, it still sounds fresh and hugely influential.

Pulling from early Aphex Twin, Detroit techno and UK hardcore, µ-Ziq built a loose, funky, lo-fi take on rave with crunchy drums and sharp melodic instincts somewhere between John Barry and classic TV themes.

Without owning a computer, Mike Paradinas had been making techno, house and industrial since 1990 on a 4-track. After linking with Frank Naughton and his Atari 1040ST, they recorded together in Wimbledon. In 1992, a demo reached Aphex Twin, leading to a Rephlex deal and an advance paid in Atari gear.
