Former magazine bassist adamson has reinvented himself as a hip new type of celluloid hero. any resemblance between the progressive, post-punk jingoism of his previous band is, at best, coincidental. the truth is that you'd hardly recognize him. yet adamson's reincarnation as a rock-imbibed morricone has already produced an impressive, full-bodied catalog of sounds and ideas. 'the negro inside me', the latest soundtrack from the urban jungle of adamson's mind, bristles with urgent dance rhythms, bleating aural sirens, and raymond chandler-esque tech-noir melodies. 'busted' is a seething combination of the best elements of 'peter gunn,' 'secret agent man,' and the james bond themes, disassembled and re-energized into an irresistibly magnetic opulence. while there are certainly many musicians out there involved in creating soundtracks to films from the id, adamson prefers to blend random fragments from the vast oeuvre of movie music - snippets of traditional piano licks, skittering stabs of jazzy percussion - with the more brazen sensibilities of his new-wave roots.
