On The Turning Blue, Kermanidou shapes otherworldly vocals and pulsing synthesisers into poetic meditations on ecological disaster and climate change. Built from hundreds of vocal takes, her voice is transformed through sound synthesis into grand synths and alien textures, sitting alongside natural vocal lines in stark, minimalist soundscapes.

There are clear touchpoints here: the avant-garde vocal experimentalism of Meredith Monk meets the synthetic scale of Tim Hecker and Jon Hopkins. With co-producer Cygnus Rift, Kermanidou gives the album’s cosmic ideas real weight and atmosphere.

Opener Star Cycle, recorded at Britannia Row, is a musical villanelle from an alien perspective. We Are Not Alone incorporates samples from the Mars Curiosity Rover as a response to David Bowie’s Life On Mars? By the closing title track, sparked by a conversation with Ware, the record reaches its clearest and most emotional point.
