There are few clubs which can rightfully claim to have changed the sonics of a generation. New York’s Studio 54, Manchester’s Haçienda, London’s Blitz. Trash is one of these clubs. Joining the dots between England’s capital, New York and Berlin, Trash ran in London every Monday night between 1997 and 2007. Soundtracked by an unpredictable mix of indie, electro, post-punk, no wave and garage rock, it was a club that celebrated a community rich in diversity and creativity. As well as legendary DJ sets, Trash hosted electric early live performances from artists including LCD Soundsystem, Bloc Party, Hot Chip and Klaxons.

Founder DJ Erol Alkan takes us on an unforgettable journey into that musical sanctuary and the turn-of-the-millennium cultural landscape from which it was born. Via a mix of Alkan’s recollections and interviews with artists including Peaches, Justice, 2manydjs, Scissor Sisters, Felix Da Housecat, Tiga and Gonzales, Alkan asks why and how a club like Trash happened when it did, what it helped set in motion, and why something like this may never happen again.
