Originally named Warsaw, Joy Division featured singer Ian Curtis, guitarist and keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bass player Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris.
Warsaw was planned as the debut album by the English post-punk band. Recorded in May 1978, it brought together eleven tracks now known collectively as the RCA Sessions. The band were unhappy with the label's post-production work, the deal fell through, and the album was ultimately scrapped.
This release of Warsaw gathers those RCA Sessions, including some tracks that would later appear on their debut EP, An Ideal For Living. It also includes As You Said from the 1980 Komakino single, alongside the band's earliest recorded music: five Warsaw demo tracks from 1977.
An essential snapshot of Joy Division at the very beginning, this is a fascinating historical and musical document of the band's early artistic strengths.
