Inspired by the likes of Slowdive and Ride, Chapterhouse were part of the short-lived 'shoegazing' scene of the early 90s. Unlike other acts who acquired a set of guitar pedals and headed off to the nearest recording studio, they mixed beats with their wall-of-sonic-guitar-fuzz to create records that stimulate both mind and feet.
This newly expanded reissue of their classic debut Whirlpool now includes all the B-sides from the singles "Pearl," "Falling Down," and some of the Sunburst EP. The album was produced by the band alongside Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), John Fryer (This Mortal Coil), Stephen Hague (New Order), and Ralph Jezzard. It also features guest vocals from Rachel Goswell (Slowdive).
The liner notes are from music journalist and long-time associate Andrew Perry, along with the lyrics in full (documented here for the first time). The reissue includes many photos, memorabilia, and other clippings from the band's personal archive, as well as images of all the releases featured on the album.
