David Axelrod was a Los Angeles-born composer, arranger and producer whose work later became a rich source for hip-hop sampling, picked up by A Tribe Called Quest, The Beatnuts, Organized Konfusion and Diamond D. Across a decades-long career, he brought a distinct jazz-informed approach to records including Earth Rot and Heavy Axe.
