Collection: Floating Points

Floating Points is the recording name of Manchester-born British producer Sam Shepherd, a musician whose work moves with unusual ease between club music, jazz and contemporary composition. That breadth runs through key records including Elaenia, Crush and the quietly monumental Promises, made with Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Shepherd is also a co-founder of Eglo Records and has led the 16-piece Floating Points Ensemble, bringing the same curiosity to band writing as he does to electronic production. Classical training is part of the picture, but so is a deep grounding in jazz and DJ culture, which helps explain why his music can feel meticulously built without ever turning stiff.
