Collection: Kenny Dorham
Kenny Dorham was an influential American trumpet player, born on August 30, 1924 in Fairfield, USA. He played a vital role in the bebop movement and was highly regarded by critics and his peers. Dorham showcased his talent in various big bands including Lionel Hampton, Billy Eckstine, Dizzy Gillespie, Mercer Ellington, and Charlie Parker's quintet. He was also a founding member of the original cooperative Jazz Messengers.
Dorham's contributions extended beyond being a sideman as he led his own groups and recorded with renowned artists such as Thelonious Monk and Sonny Rollins. Notably, he replaced Clifford Brown in the Max Roach Quintet. In 1956, he released an album titled "Kenny Dorham And The Jazz Prophets" with his own group. Throughout the 1960s, he collaborated extensively with Joe Henderson.
Tragically, at the age of 48, Kenny Dorham passed away due to kidney disease on December 5th, 1972 in New York City.
