Nat King Cole

Nat King Cole began as a jazz pianist, leading a trailblazing piano-guitar-bass trio in the late 1930s. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, he broke through with "Straighten Up and Fly Right" in 1943, then became one of pop's great soft baritones. He also hosted The Nat King Cole Show, an early US TV variety show fronted by an African American presenter.
