Spyro Gyra

Spyro Gyra formed in Buffalo in 1974 and became one of the best-known American groups to come out of jazz fusion’s more melodic end. Working across jazz, crossover jazz and smooth jazz, they built a sound that could move easily between tight ensemble playing and a lighter, pop-aware touch without losing its musicianship.

That balance helps explain the long life of the group, and the live recordings attached to their catalogue make sense in that context too: Live in Tokyo 1980 catches an early chapter, while Live in Leverkusen 2022 shows how durable the band has been across decades. Jubilee points to the same longevity in studio form.
