Girl One And The Grease Guns existed from 2013 to 2019. During that time, they released seven 7" singles, one full length album, one compilation of all the single tracks, one 12" single and one CD mini-album. Number of live appearances = zero. Number of photographs featuring the band members = zero. Number of interviews = one. They were known only by their pseudonyms - Sissy Space Echo, Charles Bronson Burner, Warren Betamax, Bruce LeeFax. Occasionally, they were joined by another Grease Gunner - John Cassette-vetes. These monikers might have seemed a little bit comical to some and inventive to others...but there was certainly nothing comical about Girl One And The Grease Guns. There was, however, something very inventive about them. Their sound was, predominantly, electronic and synth-based. Guitars were also utilised, but were never the dominant form of instrumentation. The influences included Yazoo, early Depeche Mode, Silicon Teens, OMD, The Human League, Tubeway Army, Crash Course In Science, Kraftwerk, as well as relatively obscure DIY acts such as Gerry & The Holograms, Solid Space and The Instant Automatons.

The music made by Girl One And The Grease Guns could be lush and loaded with pop hooks, or it could be stripped back... but still melodic. Occasionally, it would be unsettling and experimental, or raucous and jarring. You never fully knew what you were going to get.

What you definitely do get here, however, is 20 of the very choicest of cuts from this mysterious combo. Not in chronological order. Single tracks, album tracks, a couple of odds and ends.
Synths buzz, keyboards crackle, old drum machines sputter into life and drive the songs along (without headlights, naturally) This collection is a superb introduction to the music of Girl One And The Grease Guns. It can also serve as a great collector's piece for existing fans of the band to have all the best tracks in one handy and convenient 77 minute, feature length sonic document.
