To listen to Stella Explorer is to take a trip through the valleys and cliffs of her musical landscape. Atmospheric, ambient dream pop and sexy grooves have equal footing in a musical style that’s more than the sum of its melodic parts. It’s a musical range that she admits was unchartered territory until she left her band two years ago to lift the lid on her own musicality. Out poured “different things from different parts of me...the heritage that I haven’t really explored.” That’s a Swedish - South African heritage complete with a grandfather and both parents who are all musicians in their own right. She credits them for supplying her childhood with instruments and influences while listening to jazz, ‘70s prog rock, punk and rock. Absolute Music 2/5 unites her early works, Dorkay House and Lost Kingdom, to deliver a unified sonic world inhabited by family spirits, past homes and distant futures.⁠
