Across the Universe: Emo Solar System

Hardcore punk band Rites of Spring shine brightly at the centre of our Emo Solar System. These reluctant forefathers of emo music are closely orbited by their peers Embrace and their offspring Fugazi. Their influence radiates out to the bands that followed in their footsteps including second wave Midwest bands Sunny Day Real Estate, Cap’n Jazz and American Football; the third wave emo explosion Jimmy Eat World, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, The Get Up Kids, My Chemical Romance and Paramore. And (despite never really going away) the so-called emo revival bands including The Hotelier, Modern Baseball and Touché Amoré. Also featuring bands on the periphery of the scene including pop-punk masters Weezer, Green Day and Blink-182; post-hardcore legends At the Drive-In; influential indie rockers Bright Eyes and Death Cab for Cutie; studio favourites Anxious and boygenius and British legends Hundred Reasons.
