Piano Magic's Artists’ Rifles is a baroque post-rock classic that is now available on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 2000. This album, originally released on Rocket Girl in 2000, marked a significant departure from the band's more electronic previous albums, Popular Mechanics and Low Birth Weight.
Artists’ Rifles is Piano Magic’s first band-band album and showcases their debut in an actual recording studio. The album was improvised on the spot and produced/recorded over just five days by John A. Rivers (known for his work with Dead Can Dance and Felt) at his Woodbine St Studios in Leamington Spa.
Stylistically, Artists’ Rifles could be considered the first (and possibly only) baroque post-rock record. The album draws influences from a wide range of sources, consciously or unconsciously, including the likes of Bach and Codeine.
