Beacon of Hope is the remastered reissue of Sea Scouts' 1998 cult classic, and its first ever vinyl edition. Blending dissonant noise rock, post-punk, and themes of alienation and isolation, it now lands with even sharper focus thanks to remastering by Dave Gardner.
Originally released on CD by vocalist and guitarist Tim Evans' own Unstable Ape label and Laura MacFarlane's Patsy Records, the album became a true “IYKYK” favourite. That is partly because Sea Scouts emerged from the tiny but mighty homegrown scene in Hobart, Tasmania.
Unlike many of their Aussie peers, the trio toured the US and Europe before calling it a day, no small feat before GPS or cell phones. Twenty-six years after their final show, demand for a proper Beacon of Hope reissue never faded. These eight songs still hit with dread, catharsis, and hope.
