Beethoven for Three: Symphony No. 3 "Eroica" and Leonore Overture No. 3

Emanuel Ax, Leonidas Kavakos, and Yo-Yo Ma return with the fifth Beethoven for Three release, joined by violist Antoine Tamestit for a fresh take on two major Beethoven works.

Presented in new piano quartet arrangements by Shai Wosner, this set features Symphony No. 3 “Eroica” (Op. 55) and Leonore Overture No. 3 (Op. 72b), both written within a few years of each other.

Together, these landmark pieces mark a triumphant opening to Beethoven’s middle period, exploring heroism, nobility of spirit, and, in the case of the “Eroica”, reshaping the symphonic form for the Romantic era.
