Greg Fox and Kid Millions’, two of New York’s most sought after percussionists, sophomore effort employs modular electronics to take their inventive collaboration on unexpected turns. Milford Graves influence is clear on these wildly imaginative and spiritually intense works. Performing as a duo, Fox and Millions (John Colpitts) appreciation and understanding of each other’s playing is immediately obvious. Individual egos are completely dissolved in service of the music, the pair moving intuitively, creating a complex architecture of rhythm. Biting Through pushes the sonic and compositional potential of the drum kit to the limits, expanding the duo’s arsenal with modular electronics to create some of the most future-seeking sounds out today.
