Burning It Down: Australian Reggae (1979-1985) is the second in Austudy Records’ series of compilations surveying the influence of reggae on Australian music and culture.
Focusing on the clash of reggae and the post-punk scenes of 1970s and 1980s Australia, it brings together eight rare tracks from some of the country’s most trailblazing post-punk groups and DIY collectives. The compilation explores the collision of reggae and dub with punk, ska and new wave during a fertile time for the counterculture movement.
