ltm is pleased to present the very first compilation of early house singles and haienda classics by underground dance act t-coy, originally released on the deconstruction imprint between 1987 and 1989. formed from the ashes of factory group quando quango by simon topping (ex a certain ratio) and mike pickering (haienda deejay, and later m people), t-coy stood for 'take care of yourself' and became a trio with the addition of crack keyboards player richie close. debut single 'cario' (spanish for 'darling') appeared in june 1987, a loose-limbed latinate shuffle with added electro bite. 'it's sort of a blend of tito puente and adonis,' explained topping. 'cario is house, but there's more to it than just pushing a button. t-coy has real drums, real percussion and real piano. house is like the new punk.' two more t-coy singles followed ('i like to listen' and 'night train'), along with popular single 'dream 17' (co-created with a guy called gerald and released annette), and most of the tracks on acid-tinged dance compilation 'north', issued in 1988. though maverick t-coy never cracked the national charts, 'cario' remains a timeless deejay favourite, with the original 12" version joined on this cd by recent remixes from motor city drum ensemble and steve mac. this remastered compilation includes all tracks from the original t-coy singles on decon as well as tracks from 'north' and three remixes. the booklet features detailed liner notes and t-coy images by photographer kevin cummins.
