Cool Struttin' is a 1958 album by jazz pianist Sonny Clark, and it still lands with the kind of easy authority that makes hard bop so rewarding to return to.
Described as an "enduring hard-bop classic" by The New York Times, the album pairs Clark's sharp, stylish playing with a beautifully chosen line-up: alto saxophonist Jackie McLean, trumpeter Art Farmer, and two members of the Miles Davis Quintet, drummer Philly Joe Jones and bassist Paul Chambers.
It's a session full of character, craft and swing, with every player bringing something distinct while keeping the whole thing locked in.
